One Key Way to Get More People to Read Your Blog

Actually, this post should be entitled . . . “One Way to Get OTHER People to Read Your Blog”. This title would be much more appropriate because oftentimes when people start their own blog sites, they are probably the only one’s reading it.

If you started your blog as a way to journal and keep track of your life well then, keep blogging away, however if your intention was to create a site where you could share your thoughts on a particular topic to the rest of the world, well then you better go and tell the rest of the world that you are blogging.

Pinging is a useful technique that lets the world know about your new posts or blogs. Essentially, pinging puts up a red flag to other services so that they know that you have new content on your site.

The most basic way to ping is to tell a directory or search engine that you just created a new post. You can do this by adding your blog to their list. For example, Google has a tool, blogsearch, that allows you to search through blog posts and blog subjects. You can manually tell Google to look at your blog for new entries by adding yourself to their http://blogsearch.google.com/ping. Furthermore, you can visit sites like technorati.com, or weblogs.com and tell them as well. This however can get quite cumbersome. Additionally, for non-search engine type blog directory sites, you have to tell them every time you write something new.

The second and more efficient way of pinging is to use a ping service. Services like http://www.pingoat.com”>pingoat.com or http://www.ping-o-matic.com”> ping-o-matic.com  to allow you to enter in your blog URL every time you write a new blog and they will automatically tell 40+ blog directories that you have a new content! This can save you a lot of time.

Lastly, if you wish to make things even easier, then you can automate your blog post to notify these blog directories each time you put something new up on your website. With Wordpress, you can do this under the tab settings:writing. At the bottom of the writing setting, you will see a box (Update Services) that allows you to type in websites for you to ping. After putting in your favorite ping sites, every time you post, Wordpress will then automatically notify the sites you have in your list.

The last technique is by far the easiest way to let directories and sites know that you have new content. However, you need to find out which sites you can ping. I have started the list for you below. You can simply copy and paste this list into your Wordpress. Enjoy.
